Parents who are seeking help for their teens to learn how to better manage their emotions and behavioral health, manage school stress, and help with behavioral changes and overall negative outlook on life.
Individuals who struggle with anxiety and depression can benefit tremendously from these skills. Teens who we have helped included diagnoses such as:
* Any diagnosis that requires a parenting plan is mandatory. Non-parental involvement and adherence to the program disqualify the teen from treatment. The parent program is determined on a case-by-case basis.
Parents who are looking to improve on
I feel that I improved my feelings (getting angry, etc.) by dealing with what was making me upset. I learned that I'm more intelligent than I thought I was. I improved my alertness by really listening to people. "I learned that I am capable of learning more things than I thought I knew!"I improved my behavior, all of it. I walked into necbt many months ago struggling with my depression. I am now walking out having learned life skills to help fight against my depression. I have gotten my life back and am now able to enjoy all the beautiful moments' life has to offer!
I gave my parents a really hard time about going to ACBT at first. I didn't think that anything would help me feel better. However, the groups were great. I learned skills and was able to relate to the other kids. I didn't feel alone and the skills I learned help me to change the way that I thought about life and other people. If you're a teen, you are going to learn a lot!
I was in a really bad place because I was bullied at school. My self-esteem did not exist. I found the skills I learned and the people I met so helpful. I learned how to accept myself and not let what other people think define me. I also love Gordon and we are getting a dog at home.
ACBT was very helpful for my daughter. She is doing very well regarding self-confidence and self-esteem. There has been..."a huge improvement in her demeanor and outlook on life." She now engages me in conversation to a much larger extent than in the recent past which is a welcome change. No longer does she keep everything to herself. Overall, I would say the program is outstanding.
ACBT has been wonderful for not only my daughter but also for my husband and myself. "At ACBT the whole family is taught the tools needed, not just the patient." My daughter has overcome so many fears in just four months. The parent seminars help me to reinforce everything she learned at home. All of the staff are friendly and helpful. The therapy dog, Gordon, makes us all smile, and my kids look forward to seeing him every week.
I wish we came to ACBT first. We spent thousands of dollars with prior unsuccessful "talk" therapy and countless hospital visits. I coudn't believe how inexpensive it was, but I would have paid anything. A friend highly recommend after they completed the program. I'm so grateful for this program, it's changed our life and my son is now back in school feeling confident and getting high grades!
Check out this great video from former clients. (from our former center New England Center for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, using the model Interpersonal CBT. Interpersonal Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the former version of Neuro Emotive Cognitive Behavioral Therapy before the neurological evidence was applied. The teen & child program at American CBT is the same but delivered by our Life Coaches.
